Crotona Naval & Marince Cadet Corps History

The Corps was founded on 13 November 1979 by Lieutenant Barbara Hartnett, as an operational unit of the Catholic Youth Organization Sea Cadet Corps (C.Y.O.S.C.C.) called "Our Lady of Mercy Battalion."

On 1 July 1990, the “Our Lady of Mercy Battalion” resigned from the C.Y.O.S.C.C. and on 1 September 1990, through a joint sponsorship with Our Lady of Mercy Parish and the Crotona Community Coalition (N.W.B.C.C.), the “Our Lady of Mercy Battalion” was changed to its present name, "Crotona Naval and Marine Cadet Corps" (C.N.M.C).

Today, Captain Paul I. Ortiz is leading Crotona Naval & Marine Cadet Corps and collaborating with the Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Center (SEBNC) to help with youth development in our under-served communities.
