Rear Admiral Paul I. Ortiz joined the CYO Sea Cadets Our Lady of Mercy Battalion in August of 1982.
RDML Ortiz worked his way up the ranks and ended his enlisted years in the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer before becoming an officer in the cadet corps.
RDML Ortiz earned his bachelor’s degree from Audrey Cohen College, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Metropolitan College of NY, and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Adelphi University. He currently works for PSS as their Chief Program Officer.
RDML Ortiz has dedicated much of his career to working with the homeless population, providing supportive housing and services. He has also dedicated his time to working with the youth of the Bronx and NYC. He attributes all his success as a leader to his years as a cadet and officer in the CYO Sea Cadets and Crotona Naval & Marine Cadet Corps.
Gabriel Mujica was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. At a young age, his father gave him flying lessons and that’s when he got the passion to become a pilot. During high school, Gabriel decided he wanted go to the naval academy for college and went to Dewitt Clinton high school in the Bronx because it was near his home and they had an JROTC program. He also joined Crotona Naval & Marine Cadets, which is a Sea Scout program, and he became an Eagle Scout to help improve his chances in joining the Naval Academy.
